The Kolab2/Gentoo overlay is not (yet) a robust and highly reliable overlay. This will always prove difficult since the overlay is strongly coupled with several packages in the main portage tree which makes stability hard to achieve.

Nevertheless the overlay tries to provide a stable, an unstable and a development branch of the packages. Initially this happened all within a single repository which made it hard for users to choose the desired packages and led to problematic package combinations. Now there exists a stable overlay that is updated very infrequently and a development overlay that carries the unstable and development packages.

The stable overlay should provide you with a major release about once every year. There'll be documents provided within this wiki that should guide you safely through the upgrade process. There'll be minor releases within the stable overlay which will be bug fixes or configuration updates that should usually require no upgrade instructions. If there'll be actions necessary beyond upgrading the package, the ebuild should describe the necessary steps while installing.

You should always choose the stable overlay to install Kolab2/Gentoo. Otherwise the chances are very high that the installation will fail.
